Our Core Principles
The Sydney CYC has 3 key principles which govern all of its activites. These core spiritual statements help us in planning activities that will enable us to grow as individuals and also collectively as a youth group.
KNOW GOD
“And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”.
John 17v3
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Jeremiah 31v33-34
PRAISE GOD
“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. For you, O LORD, have made me glad by the work; at the work of your hands I sing for joy.”
Psalm 92v1
“Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips that acknowledge his name.”
Hebrews 13v15
LIVE GOD
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Micah 6v8
“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Matthew 22v37-38
Our Mission
-
To help young people to love God, understand the importance of God's purpose as shown in His word, learn lessons from studying His word, how we can become like Him, and to attain to His Kingdom.
-
While not only encouraging the young people to read, study and understand their Bibles and apply those lessons day to day, it is also a place where young people can form friendships. Many of these close friendships have been sustained after the young people have grown past the age of the CYC.
-
To maintain a standard of godliness and separation at our various activities which distinguishes us as the sons and daughters of God (or wanting to be so).
Sydney CYC Logo
God’s first words to the creation in his image were “Be fruitful” (Genesis 1v28). Trees, throughout the scripture are symbolic of people and nations (Psa 1, Jer 17v5-8, Matt 7v15-20, Ez 31) .
The aim of the Sydney CYC is to encourage spiritual growth and development that will lead to producing the fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal 5v22-23).
From Genesis to Revelation, the way to the tree of life is open to those who hear the Spirit’s words and respond and overcome (Rev 2v7) through producing fruit “meet for repentance” (Matt 3v8)
